Ask A Drunk : One Thread

The cartoonist Chris Ware, one of the finest Americans alive, has won the Guardian Book Prize for Jimmy Corrigan, a work of such profound pessimism it makes Rex look like Anthea Turner. Are we not, truly, living in the best of all possible worlds?

I’ve wanted to look like Anthea Turner ever since Bernard Levin announced in print that he didn’t fancy her. And to think there are people who say she’s got nothing to smile about!

Pessimism is the only, the sacred path. Optimists spend most of their time in a state of disappointed rage. Pessimists occasionally get a nice surprise.

An optimist is just someone who doesn't fully comprehend the situation.
